Wear sunglasses and protect your eyes from UV Rays
It is a fact that too much exposure to direct sunlight can cause damage to your skin over time. However, people don’t realize that the sun’s UV rays can damage your eyes too. That is why it is important to protect your eyes when you are spending time outside. When you are outside your eyes are exposed to two types of ultraviolet rays. This radiation can get absorbed into the retina of your eyes and cause serious damage. That is why you should choose a good pair of sunglasses that can protect your eyes again UVA and UVB rays.
There are different coatings for sunglasses in the marketplace. Some automatically tint, some brighten and reflect light to help reduce glare. However, none of them protect against UV damage. Now most manufacturers are coating their sunglasses with a UV film. This coating will allow light waves to enter the lenses but block harmful rays from penetrating the lenses. You have to get good sunglasses because exposure to UV rays can cause the retina to burn which is called photokeratitis. You could even end up with cancer of the eye from the suns radiation and ultraviolet rays or even worse go blind.
The UV rays from the sun can play a role in these eye diseases:
-pterygium
-skin cancer
-macular degeneration
You should look for glasses that offer at least 95 percent UV protection. The lens tint should block 80 percent of the transmissible light. Larger lenses that sit closer to the eyes are the best. Those that can block blue light are even safer.
