Sunglasses with polarization
Polarized sunglasses have been popular for years with boaters and fishermen because they need to dim the reflected glare from the water around them. Now many others who spend time outdoors have discovered the benefits of polarized lenses. Besides boaters outdoor enthusiasts benefit most from polarized sunglasses including skiers, bikers, golfers and joggers who all need a clear view around them.
Polarized sunglasses can be used for driving and will reduce glare from a long flat surface like the hood of the car or the road. They can be worn indoors by light sensitive people including those that have had cataract surgery. These lenses work when light gets reflected from surfaces like a road or water and is generally horizontally polarized. Instead of light being scattered in all direction it travels in a more horizontal direction. This creates an annoying and sometimes dangerous intensity of light. Polarized lenses have a special filter that blocks this type of intense light and reduces glare.
Though these sunglasses improve comfort and visibility there are some instances when they may not be good. One such example is downhill skiing. Here you don’t want to block light reflecting off icy patches because this alerts skiers to hazards. With polarized lenses you may be unable to see your cell phone or GPS system. Boaters and pilots have reported problems when viewing LCD displays. Most other sports are fine and the sunglasses offer great advantages. These glasses are available in bifocal and progressive lenses. So get out and enjoy your life outdoors with these lenses.
